September 2008 to April 2009 saw the largest deployment of Royal Navy Medics since the Falklands Conflict in 1982.  They were deployed on Operation HERRICK 9, in support of 3 Commando Brigade.  Many of the medics and servicemen were from the South West.

As a Royal Navy surgeon who was deployed during HERRICK 9, I witnessed first hand the consequences of war.  I am involved in the treatment of our casualties and when I see them back in the UK I am amazed at their resilience, drive and motivation.
